After a year of struggling with bureaucracy and legislation, we did in 2007 managed to get permission to sell Svenskt Snus throughout Thailand. To sell snuff in this country is in fact prohibited, unless the product does contain 100% Thai ingredients which are approved by the authorities.

History of Snuff

It is said that snuff was discovered in connection with Christopher Columbus voyage across the Atlantic. A monk named Ramon Pane, who traveled with Columbus in America saw the Indian priests draw up a powder in the nose. This powder included tobacco.

In the end of the 1700s century, large quantities of tobacco was grown in sweden, but everything got its end when Kungssnus were spending their orchards in 2006. In the early 1800s came the wet snus as an alternative to the more expensive chewing tobacco. At the beginning the farmers manufactured the snuff themselves, but soon special snuff manufacturers come who specialized in snuff manufacturing.

1919 7000 tonnes of snuff was sold in Sweden, the procedure is an impressive peak and this corresponds to the entire 1.2 kg per Swede! But with World War II, the smoking increased sharply in Sweden and the number of users decreased. At the end of the 60th century, however, reports that smoking was harmful to your health, snuff was then back as the most popular tobacco product.

1998, sales of snuff and annual consumption was noted to 5350 tonnes. Today one million Swedes use snuff and in 2000 the Swedes used 6200 tonnes of snus, which 45% was portion snuff.
